Heugh Battery Restoration

heughbattery3.jpg

The Heugh Battery has seen better days, but a group of local volunteers are managing to restore it to its former war-time glory

The restoration of the Heugh Gun Battery is a slow and detailed process, especially given the state the site was in after years of neglect. However, thanks to the work of the Heugh Gun Battery Trust and a dedicated team of volunteers, the Battery is really starting to come together.

Many images have been donated by the general public to aid the visual recording of historical events regarding the Heugh Gun Battery Hartlepool. Also donated are images for local, national and world wide events connected with the 'Great War'.

By restoring these images many of the local faces and returning faces of the First World War are returned to us. As ever The Heugh Gun Battery Trust relies on donated images not only for restoration but as a visual record of life in times of the First World War.

Time is taken in all cases to save the original and replaced these with a new 'old' version for use in and around the Heugh Gun Battery. Discovering a time many of us will not remember and recalling time now fading fast in the memories of those whom lived through the war.

Hartlepool’s Heugh Battery was featured on BBC restoration program in September 06.
