Light winds have meant progress in the race has been slow. The Race Committee has announced its decision to shorten the race.
After the race has finished vessels will be able to use their motors to arrive in Hartlepool in time for the festivities which run from Saturday, 7 August to Tuesday, 10 August.
A unique race formula used by Sail Training International will ensure that all vessels finishing at sea will still be eligible for placings as appropriate.
Class A vessels will now finish the race tomorrow, 5 August at 1pm, Class B vessels at 1.15pm, Class C vessels at 1.30pm and Class D vessels at 2pm.
Provisional results will be available once all ships are in port and final results announced when declaration forms have been submitted and reviewed by the race committee in Hartlepool.
