Other highlights:
Behold the Sea - Cleveland Philharmonic Orchestra - The official Tall Ships Concert:
The programme opens with atmospheric orchestra music evocative of England’s North Sea and its coastal communities – the Sea Interludes from Benjamin Britten’s opera Peter Grimes.
This is followed by Elgar’s Sea Pictures, a group of songs about the sea in all its moods. The poems range from the nocturnal calmness of Sea Slumber Song, through the best known Where Corals Lie to the wild storminess of The Swimmer.

Headland Carnival:
Run entirely by volunteers from the local community, this annual event hosts a number of competitions such as Children’s Treasure Hunt, Nutty Slack Race, Talent Night, St. Hilda’s Lunches and much more, culminating in the impressive Carnival Parade. 10:00am (Tue 27th Jul 2010) until 7:00pm (Sat 07th Aug 2010).
Town Moor Fair:
Enjoy the traditions of the Town Moor Fair, the ‘Official Tall Ships Fair’. As well as the usual thrills and spills to excite and entertain, a 42 diameter giant wheel will be taking centre stage at the fair along with ‘Megatower’, an impressive new ride making its first visit to Hartlepool. 12:00pm (Tue 27th Jul 2010) until 9:45pm (Tue 10th Aug 2010).
Mighty Ships at Hartlepool Art Gallery:
The exhibition will focus on the depiction of fighting ships during the reign of George III. Split into two themes the exhibition will look at British naval power at the height of this period and the emergence of a distinctive national style of marine painting. 10:00am (Sat 19th Jun 2010) until 5:00pm (Sat 28th Aug 2010)
