Flutter along for some butterfly magic

Home > What's On > Flutter along for some butterfly magic

YOUNGSTERS in  Hartlepool and their families are invited to enjoy one of nature’s little miracles at the town’s Rift House Children’s Centre on Friday 5 August.

Over the past few weeks children at the centre in Masefield Road have been caring for a host of tiny caterpillars and nurturing them as they have grown into chrysalises and then into beautiful Painted Lady butterflies.

On Friday the 30-plus butterflies will be released into the centre’s garden as part of a special butterfly-themed event from 11.45am to 12.15pm.

Families are encouraged to bring a packed lunch to eat in the garden and there will be a chance to help make a butterfly mobile, plus there’ll be caterpillar stories for children aged five and under.

Avis Brough, Sure Start South Community Involvement Worker, said: “The transformation of a drab-looking chrysalis into a wonderful butterfly really is magical and the youngsters have been absolutely spellbound by the process.

“We hope families from across the town will join us for our little celebration and share the special moment when our butterflies head out into the world.”

The event is free – for more information please call Rift House Children’s Centre on 01429 284610.
